EPCOT Guide for UK Families 2026/2027

If this is your first Orlando holiday, start with our Orlando Planning Guide for UK Families, then use this EPCOT guide to organise your rides, meals, festival stops and evening entertainment.

Your complete family guide to EPCOT at Walt Disney World

EPCOT is one of Walt Disney World’s most varied parks. One minute you can be racing through the future of transport, the next you can be flying across America, meeting Disney princesses or eating your way around World Showcase.

It feels noticeably different from Magic Kingdom. EPCOT has fewer traditional family rides, but combines major attractions with gardens, aquariums, interactive areas, international pavilions, live entertainment and some of the best dining at Walt Disney World.

Planning still matters. EPCOT is a large park, its most popular rides are spread across different areas, and World Showcase can involve considerably more walking than first-time visitors expect.

This guide is designed for UK families visiting in 2026 or 2027, including those staying off-site, using a Disney Magic Ticket or visiting EPCOT as part of a longer Orlando holiday.

EPCOT at a glance

Best for: Families, food, festivals, Disney characters, science, culture and larger thrill rides

Location: Walt Disney World Resort, near Lake Buena Vista

Main icon: Spaceship Earth

Best arrival strategy: Arrive early for a major ride, slow down during the afternoon and remain for the nighttime spectacular

Most popular rides: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Test Track, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After and Soarin’ Across America

Best age range: All ages, although families with school-age children, teenagers and adults may appreciate its variety most

Can you complete it in one day? You can experience the main attractions, but two shorter visits allow more time for World Showcase, characters, food and festival activities

EPCOT is currently divided into World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature and World Showcase. Its current attraction line-up includes the newly reimagined Test Track, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and the limited-time Soarin’ Across America presentation.

Why UK families should plan EPCOT differently

Many UK visitors buy multi-day Disney tickets and stay in Orlando for two weeks. This means you do not necessarily need to complete EPCOT in one exhausting day.

A practical approach is to divide EPCOT into two visits:

First visit: Major rides, World Nature, World Discovery and the nighttime spectacular.

Second visit: World Showcase, character meetings, festival activities, dining and any missed attractions.

This is particularly useful during the hotter months. EPCOT has several indoor attractions, but parts of World Showcase offer less shade and can feel demanding in the afternoon sun.

Families with younger children should also avoid assuming EPCOT is only an adult park. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, Turtle Talk With Crush, Journey Into Imagination With Figment and the aquarium can easily fill several hours.

Before you go: tickets, reservations and the Disney app

Most UK families purchase a 7-Day or 14-Day Disney Magic Ticket before travelling. Current UK Magic Tickets include theme park and water park admission, the ability to visit multiple parks on the same day and several additional activities. Memory Maker is included with adult 7-Day and 14-Day Magic Tickets, although exact inclusions and promotional prices can change.

Whether you require a theme park reservation depends on the admission type you hold. Check the conditions attached to your ticket rather than relying on information applying to another ticket category.

You should also:

  • Link every family member and ticket to your My Disney account.
  • Download the latest My Disney Experience app before travelling and connect your tickets and family members. UK visitors must wait until they arrive in the United States before purchasing Lightning Lane passes.
  • Check EPCOT’s opening hours and entertainment schedule.
  • Decide whether you will use Lightning Lane passes.
  • Book any important table-service restaurants in advance.
  • Measure younger children before discussing height-restricted rides.

For UK accounts, Disney states that app-based products and services are intended for use in the United States. This is especially important when planning Lightning Lane purchases.

Understanding EPCOT’s four neighbourhoods

World Celebration

World Celebration is the central area around Spaceship Earth and CommuniCore Plaza.

Its main experiences include:

  • Spaceship Earth

  • Dreamers Point

  • Journey Into Imagination With Figment

  • Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival

  • Mickey & Friends character greetings

  • Connections Café and Connections Eatery

This is a useful area to explore later in the day. Spaceship Earth frequently has longer waits shortly after opening because arriving guests naturally stop at the first attraction they see.

World Discovery

World Discovery contains EPCOT’s largest thrill rides:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

  • Test Track

  • Mission: SPACE

  • Advanced Training Lab

  • Space 220 Restaurant

The current Test Track experience focuses on the future of mobility before finishing with its familiar high-speed outdoor section. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is an indoor rotating coaster with a reverse launch and a minimum height of 107cm.

World Nature

World Nature is particularly good for younger families and anyone seeking indoor attractions during the hottest part of the day.

Its main experiences include:

  • Soarin’ Across America

  • Living with the Land

  • Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana

  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends

  • SeaBase aquarium

  • Turtle Talk With Crush

  • Garden Grill Restaurant

Journey of Water has wet and dry routes, so children can interact with the water without every family member needing to become soaked.

As of 2026, Soarin’ Across America has temporarily replaced Soarin’ Around the World. Disney describes the current version as a limited-time journey, so visitors travelling in 2027 should check which film is operating.

World Showcase

World Showcase is arranged around a large lagoon and contains 11 country pavilions:

  • Mexico

  • Norway

  • China

  • Germany

  • Italy

  • The American Adventure

  • Japan

  • Morocco

  • France

  • United Kingdom

  • Canada

Each pavilion offers a mixture of architecture, food, shopping, entertainment and exhibitions. Mexico, Norway and France also contain rides.

World Showcase is much more than a collection of restaurants. Allow time to enter the buildings, watch the performers and explore areas hidden behind the main pathways.

Best EPCOT rides for UK families

Best rides and attractions for toddlers

These experiences have no minimum height requirement and are suitable for most younger visitors:

  • Frozen Ever After

  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends

  • Spaceship Earth

  • Living with the Land

  • Journey Into Imagination With Figment

  • Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros

  • Turtle Talk With Crush

  • Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana

  • SeaBase aquarium

Tip: Frozen Ever After includes a backwards section and a small drop. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure uses large screens and moving vehicles, which can affect children or adults who are sensitive to simulated movement.

Best experiences for primary-school children

Children ready for slightly larger attractions may particularly enjoy:

  • Test Track

  • Soarin’ Across America

  • Frozen Ever After

  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

  • Mission: SPACE Green Mission

  • Spaceship Earth

  • Disney’s DuckTales World Showcase Adventure

  • Kidcot Fun Stops

  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends

  • Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana

The Kidcot Fun Stops are located around World Showcase and give children a small activity while adults explore the pavilions.

Best rides for older children and teenagers

EPCOT’s strongest attractions for thrill-seekers are:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

  • Test Track

  • Mission: SPACE Orange Mission

  • Soarin’ Across America

Guardians of the Galaxy is EPCOT’s biggest coaster, but its rotating ride vehicles can cause motion sickness even among visitors who normally enjoy roller coasters.

Mission: SPACE offers two versions. Green Mission is gentler and does not spin, while Orange Mission uses a centrifuge to simulate stronger forces. Orange Mission has a higher 112cm requirement and carries more substantial health warnings.

EPCOT ride height requirements

Attraction Minimum height
Test Track
102cm
Soarin’ Across America
102cm
Mission: SPACE Green Mission
102cm
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
107cm
Mission: SPACE Orange Mission
112cm

The other principal EPCOT rides listed in this guide currently have no minimum height requirement. Always check the individual attraction page or My Disney Experience before visiting because requirements and operating arrangements can change.

A sensible one-day EPCOT itinerary

Before you arrive

Check park hours, link your tickets and decide whether you are buying Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Single Pass for Guardians of the Galaxy or both.

Try to avoid arriving without deciding which major attraction your family considers most important. EPCOT’s headliners are positioned in different parts of the park, and crossing between them wastes valuable early-morning time.

Read our Rope Dropping at Disney World guide

Entering through EPCOT’s main entrance

Most visitors driving, using Disney buses or arriving by monorail enter underneath Spaceship Earth.

A sensible opening strategy is:

  1. Start with Test Track if it is your main priority.

  2. Ride Frozen Ever After or Soarin’ next.

  3. Complete nearby lower-wait attractions before lunchtime.

  4. Leave Spaceship Earth until later unless its queue is short.

Test Track can be a useful first choice because its outdoor section may close temporarily during thunderstorms.

Entering through International Gateway

Guests using the Disney Skyliner or staying around Disney’s BoardWalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan or Dolphin enter beside the France and United Kingdom pavilions.

From this entrance:

  1. Start with Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

  2. Continue towards Frozen Ever After in Norway.

  3. Move into World Discovery or World Nature afterwards.

Remy’s location makes it a much more natural first ride from International Gateway than from EPCOT’s main entrance.

Morning

Complete two or three high-priority attractions before the park becomes busier.

A realistic morning could include:

  • Test Track

  • Frozen Ever After

  • Living with the Land

  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends

Alternatively, families entering through International Gateway could complete:

  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

  • Frozen Ever After

  • Gran Fiesta Tour

  • Test Track

Do not attempt to follow a rigid touring plan if an attraction is temporarily unavailable. Move to your next priority and monitor the app.

Lunchtime

Eat slightly earlier than the main lunchtime period where possible.

Good options include:

  • Connections Eatery for familiar burgers, pizza and chicken

  • Sunshine Seasons for a varied indoor food court

  • Regal Eagle Smokehouse for barbecue

  • Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie for French sandwiches and pastries

  • Yorkshire County Fish Shop for fish and chips

  • Festival kitchens when an EPCOT festival is running

Connections Eatery offers mobile ordering, while EPCOT’s wider dining collection includes numerous quick-service and table-service restaurants throughout World Showcase.

Afternoon

Use the hottest part of the day for slower or indoor experiences:

  • Spaceship Earth

  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends

  • SeaBase aquarium

  • Turtle Talk With Crush

  • Living with the Land

  • Journey Into Imagination With Figment

  • American Adventure

  • Reflections of China

  • Canada Far and Wide

This is also a good time for a dining reservation or a return to your accommodation if you have a multi-day ticket and park hopping.

Late afternoon and evening

Explore World Showcase gradually rather than racing directly around the lagoon.

Choose a few pavilions to investigate properly, watch live entertainment and have an evening meal or festival snack. Fit in any remaining Lightning Lane reservations as you travel around the park.

Finish by finding a viewing position for EPCOT’s night time spectacular.

Lightning Lane at EPCOT

Lightning Lane is optional. Families prepared to arrive early and accept some standby queues can still have a successful day without it.

Lightning Lane Single Pass

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is currently the EPCOT attraction available through Lightning Lane Single Pass.

It also operates a normal standby queue. Disney’s official virtual queue page currently lists no active virtual queues, although Disney may bring the system back for selected experiences in future.

A Single Pass may be useful when:

  • Guardians is a must-do attraction.

  • You are visiting on a busy date.

  • You cannot arrive early.

  • You are only spending one day at EPCOT.

  • You want more time for World Showcase.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

When purchasing EPCOT Multi Pass, you can currently choose one advance selection from:

  • Frozen Ever After

  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

  • Test Track

Your remaining advance selections can come from:

  • Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival

  • Journey Into Imagination With Figment

  • Living with the Land

  • Mission: SPACE

  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends

  • Soarin’ Across America

  • Spaceship Earth

  • Turtle Talk With Crush

After redeeming your first selection, you can search for another available attraction. The exact availability can change throughout the day.

Best EPCOT Multi Pass strategy

For most families, the strongest initial choice is normally Test Track, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure or Frozen Ever After.

Your other selections should preferably be booked early enough that you can redeem the first and begin searching for additional availability.

Avoid filling your plan with attractions that usually have manageable standby queues unless the times fit naturally around your day.

Disney Resort and selected hotel guests can purchase Lightning Lane passes up to seven days before their stay. Other eligible guests can purchase up to three days before their visit or ticket start date, depending on their admission. The booking window begins at 7:00am Eastern Time. UK visitors must also account for Disney’s requirement that app-based purchases are completed after arrival in the United States.

Read our complete Lightning Lane Multi Pass Guide before deciding whether the additional cost is worthwhile.

Exploring World Showcase with children

World Showcase becomes much more enjoyable for children when it is treated as an activity rather than a long walk between shops.

Try combining:

  • Kidcot Fun Stops
  • Character meetings
  • Disney’s DuckTales World Showcase Adventure
  • Gran Fiesta Tour in Mexico
  • Frozen Ever After in Norway
  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in France
  • Snacks shared between family members
  • Live musicians and performers
  • Pavilion exhibitions and films

Do not feel that you must buy food or merchandise in every country. Allow each child to choose one pavilion, snack or activity they particularly want to experience.

Families with pushchairs should agree where they will park before entering attractions. World Showcase can become crowded during evenings, weekends and major festivals.

Characters at EPCOT

EPCOT is one of the best Walt Disney World parks for meeting characters in different themed locations.

Depending on the current schedule, appearances may include:

  • Mickey Mouse and other Disney friends
  • Anna and Elsa at Royal Sommerhus
  • Donald Duck in Mexico
  • Alice in the United Kingdom
  • A character from the Hundred Acre Wood in the United Kingdom
  • Belle and Princess Aurora in France
  • Snow White in Germany
  • Mulan in China
  • Princess Jasmine in Morocco
  • Figment inside ImageWorks
  • Asha near World Showcase Plaza
  • Pluto near EPCOT’s main entrance
  • Star-Lord near Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Characters, locations and appearance times can change. Check the character section of the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit rather than promising children that a particular character will be available.

EPCOT festivals in 2026

Festivals add food kitchens, entertainment, merchandise and activities across the park. They are included with EPCOT admission, although food, drinks and some special packages cost extra.

EPCOT International Festival of the Arts

2026 dates: 16 January to 23 February

This festival combines visual art, food presentation, live performance, interactive artwork and the Disney on Broadway concert series.

EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival

2026 dates: 4 March to 1 June

Expect character topiaries, gardens, outdoor food kitchens and the Garden Rocks concert series. This is particularly attractive for families who want EPCOT to feel colourful without the heaviest late-summer humidity.

EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival

2026 dates: 27 August to 21 November

Food & Wine introduces additional kitchens around EPCOT and the Eat to the Beat concert series. Friday evenings and weekends can feel busier, so families may prefer a weekday visit.

EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays

2026 dates: 27 November to 30 December

The holiday festival includes seasonal food, storytellers and the Candlelight Processional. Popular performances and dining packages may require advance planning.

Festival dates change annually. Visitors travelling in 2027 should confirm the new dates before arranging park days or dining reservations.

Where to eat at EPCOT

Best quick-service choices for families

Connections Eatery: A useful option for burgers, chicken and pizza near the centre of the park.

Sunshine Seasons: Convenient when visiting Soarin’, Living with the Land and Garden Grill.

Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Barbecue meals in the American Adventure pavilion.

Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie: French sandwiches, pastries and desserts.

Yorkshire County Fish Shop: Familiar fish and chips in the United Kingdom pavilion.

Festival kitchens: Best for sharing several small portions instead of ordering one large meal.

Best character dining

Garden Grill Restaurant: Family-style meals with Chip ‘n’ Dale and other Disney characters. The dining area slowly rotates above scenes from Living with the Land.

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall: Princess character dining in the Norway pavilion. This can be a useful alternative for families who cannot obtain a Cinderella’s Royal Table reservation at Magic Kingdom.

Best themed dining

Space 220 Restaurant: A themed journey to a space station with views looking back towards Earth. The restaurant uses a fixed-price menu, while Space 220 Lounge offers a separate small-plate experience.

Should you book a table-service restaurant?

Book a restaurant when the meal itself is an important part of your EPCOT day.

Disney Resort guests can generally make reservations for their stay, up to ten nights, beginning 60 days before arrival. Other guests can book individual dates up to 60 days in advance.

A long table-service meal can remove two hours from your touring day once check-in, seating, ordering and payment are included. Families primarily interested in rides may prefer quick service.

Luminous The Symphony of Us

Luminous The Symphony of Us takes place over World Showcase Lagoon and combines fireworks, fountains, lighting and Disney music. Showtimes vary, so check the official calendar or My Disney Experience rather than assuming it will always begin at the same time.

Where should families watch?

You do not necessarily need to claim a position several hours early.

Look for:

  • An unobstructed view across the lagoon

  • Space where children can see without being lifted throughout the show

  • A location reasonably close to your exit

  • Protection from crowds where possible

Families leaving through International Gateway may prefer France, the United Kingdom or the bridge between them. Visitors using the main entrance may find a position closer to World Showcase Plaza more convenient.

Avoid standing directly behind trees, structures or festival kiosks. Check the sightline at child height rather than adult height.

Getting to EPCOT

Driving

EPCOT has its own car park and a direct main entrance. Allow additional time for parking, security and walking or tram transport before the advertised opening time.

Disney bus

Complimentary Disney buses connect Disney Resort hotels with the theme parks. Disney says park bus services generally begin around 45 minutes before opening and finish approximately one hour after closing.

Disney Skyliner

The Skyliner connects International Gateway with Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Caribbean Beach Resort, Riviera Resort, Pop Century Resort and Art of Animation Resort.

International Gateway is also within walking distance of Disney’s BoardWalk, Beach Club and Yacht Club areas.

Monorail

The EPCOT monorail operates between EPCOT and the Transportation and Ticket Center. Guests travelling between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT normally change monorail lines at the Transportation and Ticket Center.

Walking and boats

Guests staying around Disney’s BoardWalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan or Dolphin can walk or use boat transport to International Gateway.

Early Theme Park Entry

Registered guests staying at Disney Resort hotels and selected partner hotels receive 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry at every Walt Disney World theme park on eligible days.

This benefit is planned to continue through 2027, although the attractions operating during the early period can change.

At EPCOT, those 30 minutes can make a substantial difference if used on Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After or Test Track.

Arrive before Early Entry begins. Reaching the transport stop at the published Early Entry time wastes most of the advantage.

Coping with heat and rain at EPCOT

EPCOT can feel particularly hot because of the distances between attractions.

Bring:

  • Refillable water bottles
  • Sun cream
  • Hats
  • Lightweight rain ponchos
  • A portable phone charger
  • Comfortable shoes
  • A change of clothes for children using Journey of Water
  • Any necessary cooling equipment

Good indoor afternoon options include Spaceship Earth, The Seas pavilion, Living with the Land, American Adventure, pavilion films and a booked restaurant.

Test Track’s outdoor section may stop during nearby lightning. If severe weather is expected, ride it early rather than leaving it until evening.

Guests can bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks, provided Disney’s restrictions concerning containers, storage and preparation are followed.

How long should you spend at EPCOT?

One day

One full day is enough for the major rides, several pavilions, one main meal and the nighttime spectacular.

One and a half days

This is a strong option for most first-time UK families. Use the full day for rides and the evening show, then return on another afternoon for World Showcase, dining and characters.

Two days

Two days suit families who:

  • Want several character meetings

  • Are visiting during a festival

  • Have important dining reservations

  • Prefer shorter park days

  • Want to repeat Guardians, Test Track or Frozen

  • Enjoy World Showcase entertainment and exhibitions

EPCOT is a good park to combine with a morning at Disney’s Hollywood Studios because the two parks are connected by Skyliner, boat and a walking route.

Common EPCOT mistakes

Stopping at Spaceship Earth immediately

It is tempting to enter the first attraction you see, but the queue may decrease later.

Walking repeatedly across the park

Group attractions by area instead of travelling between France, Test Track and The Seas several times.

Ignoring World Showcase until evening

Starting too late leaves little time for its films, performers, characters and exhibitions.

Booking too many meals

Festival snacks, table-service dining and quick-service meals can consume a surprising amount of time and money.

Underestimating motion sickness

Guardians, Remy, Soarin’ and Mission: SPACE use different combinations of screens, spinning or simulated movement.

Arriving at the published opening time

The entrance, security and walk to your first attraction all take time. Aim to be at EPCOT before opening.

Promising children they can ride before measuring them

Disney measures children at the attraction. Shoes, hair and estimates made at home do not override the official measurement.

EPCOT FAQs for UK families

Is EPCOT suitable for toddlers?

Yes. EPCOT has several no-height-requirement rides, an aquarium, interactive water features, character meetings and Kidcot activities. It may not have as many small-child rides as Magic Kingdom, but it can still fill a full family day.

Is EPCOT worth visiting with teenagers?

Yes. Guardians of the Galaxy, Test Track, Mission: SPACE, Soarin’, international food and seasonal festivals make EPCOT one of the strongest Disney parks for teenagers and adults.

What should we ride first at EPCOT?

From the main entrance, Test Track is usually a sensible first priority. From International Gateway, start with Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Your family’s must-do attraction should take priority over a generic touring plan.

Does Guardians of the Galaxy use a virtual queue?

Not currently. The attraction has a standby queue and can also be purchased through Lightning Lane Single Pass. Disney can reintroduce virtual queues for selected experiences, so check the app before visiting.

Is Lightning Lane Multi Pass necessary at EPCOT?

No, but it can help on busy dates or when you only have one EPCOT day. Its value is greatest when you secure Test Track, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure or Frozen Ever After as your higher-priority advance selection.

Can we meet Disney princesses at EPCOT?

Yes. EPCOT regularly hosts several princesses around World Showcase, while Akershus Royal Banquet Hall offers princess character dining.

Can we bring food into EPCOT?

Yes. Disney currently allows outside food and non-alcoholic drinks for personal use, subject to its container, heating, refrigeration and odour restrictions.

Is World Showcase boring for children?

It can feel slow if children are simply expected to follow adults between shops. Mix the pavilions with rides, characters, Kidcot activities, DuckTales missions and shared snacks.

Which entrance should we use?

Use the main entrance when driving, arriving by bus or using the monorail. Use International Gateway when arriving from the Skyliner or EPCOT-area hotels.

Should we remain for the fireworks?

Yes, especially on a first visit. Luminous provides a clear conclusion to an EPCOT day and Spaceship Earth is particularly impressive after dark.

Final verdict: is EPCOT worth visiting?

EPCOT is absolutely worth including in a Walt Disney World holiday, but families should approach it differently from Magic Kingdom.

Do not measure the park only by its number of rides. EPCOT works best when major attractions are combined with characters, food, World Showcase, aquariums, live entertainment and time to explore.

For most first-time UK families, the best plan is to arrive early, complete one major attraction before queues build, use indoor experiences during the hottest period and explore World Showcase gradually before remaining for Luminous.

Families with a 7-Day or 14-Day Disney ticket should consider splitting EPCOT across two visits rather than forcing every attraction, restaurant and pavilion into one long day.
