Choose the right Day Resort or Dolphin Swim package, understand what is included and plan a relaxed full day without paying twice for other SeaWorld parks.
Discovery Cove is a limited-capacity, all-inclusive day resort rather than a conventional theme park. There are no major rides or large water slides. The value comes from snorkelling, tropical waterways, animal experiences, food and practical amenities being combined into one reserved day.

Is the dolphin swim upgrade right for your family?
Choose a Dolphin Swim package when
The interaction is a major holiday priority, every participant meets the rules and the additional cost still leaves room for the rest of your planned experiences.
The experience is trainer-led and scheduled. Treat it as one important part of the day rather than the only reason to visit.
Choose Day Resort admission when
Your family mainly wants the reef, river, aviary, included food and relaxed atmosphere, or some children do not meet the dolphin requirements.
The Day Resort ticket is not a reduced park experience; it removes the dolphin interaction while retaining the main included areas and amenities.
Dolphin requirement: children must be at least 6 years old and at least 42 inches tall. Children aged 6-12 must be accompanied by a paying adult who is also taking part. Minors need the required parent or guardian waiver.
What you can do during the day
The Grand Reef
Snorkel among tropical fish and rays. Shallow entries and provided flotation help, but some sections are deeper and cooler.
Wind-Away River
Float through caves, waterfalls and tropical landscaping. It is deeper than many hotel lazy rivers, so use the supplied vest when needed.
Freshwater Oasis
Wade and swim near viewing areas for otters and cotton-top tamarins beneath a rainforest-style canopy.
Explorer's Aviary
Walk through free-flight areas and see colourful birds. Visit earlier if bird feeding is an important part of your day.
Serenity Bay and Flamingo Point
Use the warmer lagoon and beach for slower family time, then see Caribbean flamingos in the included habitat.
Dolphin Lagoon
Available only with a qualifying package. The structured interaction includes an orientation and scheduled in-water experience.
A simple Discovery Cove day plan
7:00-8:30
Arrive and check in
Confirm reserved experiences, collect your gear and eat breakfast before the waterways open.
9:00
Start with a priority
Visit the Grand Reef or aviary while the day still feels quiet. Do not try to complete everything immediately.
Reserved time
Dolphin or upgrade
Follow the time given at check-in. Keep the rest of the schedule flexible around it.
11:00-3:30
Lunch window
Eat outside the busiest point when practical, then use the river, oasis and bay at a relaxed pace.
Before 5:00
Repeat and change
Revisit a favourite area, then allow enough time for showers and dry clothes before leaving.
Young children, non-swimmers and upgrade restrictions
General admission with children
Guests of all ages are welcome. Children aged 2 and under are currently free with a full-paying adult, but they still require a reservation. Discovery Cove is not childcare, and children need normal adult supervision.
Families wanting slides and high-energy water play may prefer Aquatica; Discovery Cove is built around nature, swimming and relaxation.
Non-swimmers and deeper water
Strong swimming is not required for every area. Complimentary flotation is available, and there are beaches, shallower entries and non-swimming experiences.
Wind-Away River and parts of the Grand Reef are deep. Use a vest, stay with a confident adult and ask staff about suitable entry and exit points.
Water temperatures
Serenity Bay, Freshwater Oasis and Wind-Away River are maintained at approximately 30C. Dolphin Lagoon and The Grand Reef are cooler at approximately 25C.
The included wetsuit can be useful even on a warm Florida day.
Paid animal upgrades
SeaVenture, Shark Snorkel and Shark Interaction currently require participants to be at least 10 and confident swimmers. Younger participants also require a paying participating companion.
Check the exact age, health and waiver requirements before purchasing any upgrade.
What to bring and what to leave behind

Swimwear and a complete set of dry clothes
Booking confirmation and adult photo identification

Swim nappies when required
Hat, sunglasses and simple footwear
Optional waterproof phone case
Payment card for photographs or upgrades
Usually leave behind

Standard sunscreen for use in animal habitats
Unnecessary jewellery and valuables
Coolers, alcohol and normal outside meals
A packed theme-park-sized day bag
Bottled water and refillable water bottles are permitted. Exceptions may be available for allergies, specialist diets and baby food or formula; arrange these before visiting.
Food, allergies and alcohol
Included dining
Breakfast, lunch, unlimited snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and selected beer and wine are included. Alcohol is for guests aged 21 or over with suitable identification.
Allergies and specialist diets
Discovery Cove advises guests with allergies to ask for a supervisor or chef at Laguna Grill. Not every food location is free from cross-contact, so discuss serious allergies directly rather than relying only on labels.
Where Discovery Cove fits in a 14-day holiday
Place it around the middle of the trip, after a demanding park block and before another busy section. It feels calmer than a theme park, but the early arrival, swimming and sun can still make it tiring.
Avoid the first morning after a late UK arrival
Avoid following a very late fireworks night

Discovery Cove FAQs
Is the dolphin swim included with every ticket?
No. Choose a package that specifically includes the Signature Dolphin Swim. Day Resort admission includes the main reef, river, lagoons, aviary, food and amenities without the dolphin interaction.
What is the minimum age for the dolphin swim?
Children must be at least 6 years old and at least 42 inches tall. Children aged 6-12 must be accompanied by a paying adult who is also participating.
Is Discovery Cove worth visiting without the dolphin swim?
Yes, when your family values snorkelling, the river, aviary, included food and a slower atmosphere. The Grand Reef and other main included areas are available with Day Resort admission.
What time should we arrive?
Discovery Cove currently asks guests to arrive between 7:00am and 8:30am. The waterways operate from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Arriving early protects the full value of the reserved day.
Are food, towels and lockers included?
Yes. Standard reservations include breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinks, a locker, towel service, swim gear, animal-safe sunscreen and parking at Discovery Cove.
Do we need to be strong swimmers?
No, but several waterways have deep sections. Use the complimentary flotation, stay with a confident adult and ask staff about suitable routes. Some paid upgrades do require confident swimming.
Does the two-park package include parking at SeaWorld and Aquatica?
Do not assume it does. Parking at Discovery Cove is included, while the current official three-park package specifically includes parking at SeaWorld, Aquatica and Busch Gardens. Check the exact wording on the UK ticket you purchase.
Can children aged 2 and under visit free?
They are currently admitted free with a full-paying adult, but a reservation is still required. Confirm the current process when making the family booking.
Can we bring outside food?
Normal outside food, alcohol and coolers are not allowed. Bottled water and refillable water bottles are permitted, and exceptions may be arranged for allergies, specialist diets and baby food or formula.
Is Discovery Cove an overnight resort?
No. "Day Resort" describes the all-inclusive daytime format. Standard Discovery Cove admission does not provide accommodation.
