Disney's current calendar shows Typhoon Lagoon is due to close temporarily from 9 September, with visitors directed to Blizzard Beach during the closure. Check the official calendar shortly before travel rather than assuming the same water park will be open.
Disney advises that at least one water park normally opens each day except when weather prevents it. Full-day closures should appear on the calendar at least one day ahead, while temporary same-day closures can happen with little notice.

Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool safety
Disney describes the Surf Pool as producing swells up to six feet. It has no height minimum, but the strength of the water increases farther from the beach.
Check the wave schedule
A chalkboard near the beach shows the day's wave programme. Do not assume every cycle produces the same conditions.
Choose the right depth
Start shallower than you think necessary. Large waves can knock over adults as well as children.

Coolers are inspected. Disney currently prohibits loose or dry ice, glass and alcoholic drinks brought into the water park; reusable ice packs are accepted.
