Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon combines a tropical beach atmosphere with family raft rides, fast water slides, children’s play areas, a lazy river and an exceptionally powerful wave pool.

It can provide a welcome break from long days walking around Disney’s four main theme parks, particularly during a 10 or 14-night Orlando holiday. However, Disney’s water parks operate seasonally, and opening hours, weather closures and ticket conditions require some advance planning.

This guide explains everything UK families need to know about Typhoon Lagoon, including its best rides, height restrictions, food, lockers, transport, tickets and a realistic plan for your visit.

Important 2026 update

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is currently operating during summer 2026 but will temporarily close from 9 September 2026. Disney is directing guests towards Blizzard Beach during the closure. Disney has not yet announced a reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon.

Is Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Worth Visiting?

Typhoon Lagoon is worth considering if your Disney ticket includes water park admission or your family wants a less demanding day between visits to the main theme parks.

It is particularly suitable for:

Families staying in Orlando for 10–14 nights
Children who enjoy pools and water slides
Teenagers looking for faster water attractions
Parents wanting a slower Disney day
Mixed-age families needing both thrill rides and quieter areas

It may be less suitable for families with only four or five Disney days, visitors who dislike swimming or anyone travelling during cooler or unsettled weather.

For most UK families, Typhoon Lagoon works best as a flexible half-day or full-day visit rather than replacing a day at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom.

What Is the Theme of Typhoon Lagoon?

Typhoon Lagoon is themed as a tropical island resort transformed by an enormous storm.

Boats, fishing equipment, surfboards and other wreckage appear throughout the park. Its main landmark is Miss Tilly, a shrimp boat stranded at the top of Mount Mayday.

The result feels more like a storm-damaged tropical island than a conventional water park.

Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool sits near the centre of the park, surrounded by a large sandy beach. Castaway Creek circles much of the park, while the water slides and raft rides extend across Mount Mayday and the surrounding areas.

Is Typhoon Lagoon Open in 2026?

Typhoon Lagoon is open during summer 2026.

Disney has officially confirmed that the park will temporarily close from 9 September 2026. During that closure, Disney encourages visitors to use Blizzard Beach instead.

Disney has not announced when Typhoon Lagoon will reopen.

This means that anyone visiting from 9 September 2026 onwards should not include Typhoon Lagoon in a fixed itinerary unless Disney subsequently announces a reopening date.

Even when the park is scheduled to operate, individual attractions and the entire water park can close because of:

Thunderstorms or lightning
Cooler temperatures
Maintenance
Refurbishment
Capacity restrictions
Other operational reasons

Check the Disney calendar shortly before travelling and again on the morning of your visit.

Will Typhoon Lagoon Be Open in 2027?

Disney has not yet published a complete Typhoon Lagoon operating calendar for 2027.

Disney has confirmed that its check-in-day water park benefit will return for eligible Disney Resorts Collection hotel guests during summer 2027. However, the exact dates and which water park or parks will be operating have not yet been announced.

The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort will be excluded from the 2027 hotel benefit.

Do not build a 2027 itinerary around Typhoon Lagoon until Disney releases the operating calendar for your travel dates.

Is Typhoon Lagoon Included with UK Disney Magic Tickets?

Disney Magic Tickets currently sold through Walt Disney Travel Company in the UK include admission to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon or Disney’s Blizzard Beach, whichever water park is open.

A water park reservation is not currently required, but this policy could change. Water parks are also subject to seasonal, weather, capacity and refurbishment closures.

Disney’s current UK ticket information also states that:

Best Rides and Attractions at Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon offers a mixture of thrill slides, family raft rides, children’s areas and relaxing water attractions.

Unlike Disney’s main theme parks, there is no Lightning Lane system to plan. Your main strategy should be to arrive early and complete the most popular slides before the park becomes busier.

1. Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool

Best for: Confident swimmers, teenagers and families who enjoy waves
Height requirement: Any height

Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool is the park’s signature attraction.

Disney describes it as North America’s largest wave pool, producing swells of up to six feet. The pool also operates gentler wave periods, with the day’s schedule normally displayed near the beach.

The water becomes progressively deeper towards the centre. A warning sound signals that a powerful wave is approaching.

Inner tubes are not permitted in the Surf Pool.

Younger children, nervous swimmers and weaker swimmers should remain in the shallower section with an adult. Complimentary life jackets are available around the park.

Our advice: Do not underestimate the main wave. Begin in the shallow area and assess its force before moving further into the pool.

2. Crush ’n’ Gusher

Best for: Older children, teenagers and adults
Minimum height: 48 inches or 122cm

Crush ’n’ Gusher is Typhoon Lagoon’s water coaster and one of its most popular thrill attractions.

Riders travel through a 400-foot tube slide, propelled by water jets through sudden drops, tight bends and uphill sections.

There are three routes:

Depending on the operating arrangements and Cast Member instructions, guests can ride alone or with a partner.

Our advice: Ride Crush ’n’ Gusher shortly after opening. It is one of the attractions most likely to develop a longer queue later in the day.

3. Miss Adventure Falls

Best for: Families wanting a shared raft attraction
Height requirement: Any height

Miss Adventure Falls is one of Typhoon Lagoon’s strongest family attractions.

Guests board a four-person raft before an aquatic conveyor transports them towards the start of the ride. The raft then travels through a themed white-water course featuring lost artefacts and tropical scenery.

It provides enough movement to feel exciting without being as intense as Humunga Kowabunga or Crush ’n’ Gusher.

This is a good first raft attraction for children progressing beyond the smaller play areas.

4. Humunga Kowabunga

Best for: Confident thrill-seekers
Minimum height: 48 inches or 122cm

Humunga Kowabunga consists of three side-by-side enclosed body slides.

Riders descend Mount Mayday through a dark, steep and fast drop. The experience is brief but considerably more intense than most other attractions at Typhoon Lagoon.

This is not a gentle family slide. Nervous riders should try Storm Slides or one of the raft rides before attempting it.

5. Castaway Creek

Best for: Relaxing and cooling down
Height requirement: Any height

Castaway Creek is Typhoon Lagoon’s lazy river.

Guests float around much of the park in inflatable tubes, passing tropical vegetation, caves, waterfalls and sections of Mount Mayday.

It works particularly well:

Towards the end of the day

Children should be supervised when entering and leaving the river and while passing underneath waterfalls.

6. Gangplank Falls

Best for: Families and groups

Gangplank Falls is a shared white-water raft attraction with splashes, turns and sections of rougher water.

Groups with fewer than four riders may be asked to share their raft with other guests.

It is a useful choice for families wanting to experience a ride together without a minimum height restriction.

7. Mayday Falls

Best for: Older children and adults wanting a faster tube slide
Height requirement: Any height

Mayday Falls is the most intense of Typhoon Lagoon’s three Falls tube slides.

Riders travel individually through caves, waterfalls and faster sections while sitting in an inflatable tube. Disney describes it as a medium-intensity attraction suitable mainly for bigger children, teenagers and adults.

Although there is no published minimum height, parents should consider each child’s swimming ability and confidence.

8. Keelhaul Falls

Best for: Guests trying an individual tube slide
Height requirement: Any height

Keelhaul Falls is generally more approachable than Mayday Falls.

The ride contains turns, splashes and sections of faster water, but it can be a sensible progression for children who are comfortable on the family raft attractions.

9. Storm Slides

Storm Slides contains three body slides:

There is no published minimum height, but riders must be comfortable travelling without a raft and entering the landing pool independently.

10. Ketchakiddee Creek

Best for: Toddlers and younger children

Ketchakiddee Creek is a dedicated play area for smaller children.

It contains:

Children taller than the posted maximum height cannot use the area.

11. Bay Slides

Bay Slides consists of two beginner body slides located close to Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool.

They offer a useful step between Ketchakiddee Creek and the park’s larger slides.

Disney’s general attraction listing currently describes Bay Slides as being for guests measuring 60 inches or shorter. Some versions of the individual attraction information have used slightly different wording.

Weather and Temporary Closures

Florida thunderstorms can affect Typhoon Lagoon even when the day begins with clear skies.

Slides, pools and other water attractions can temporarily close because of lightning or severe weather. The entire water park can also close for the day.

Disney advises checking both its calendar and the weather forecast. Full-day weather closures may appear on the park calendar in advance, while temporary same-day closures can happen with little notice.

Keep your itinerary flexible and avoid making one particular day your only opportunity to visit.

Disney H2O Glow After Hours is a separately ticketed nighttime event at Typhoon Lagoon.
