Disney’s Hollywood Studios Guide for UK Families 2026 & 2027

Disney’s Hollywood Studios combines some of Walt Disney World’s biggest thrill rides with Star Wars, Toy Story, live entertainment and classic Hollywood theming.

Although it is smaller than some of Disney World’s other parks, planning your day matters. Popular attractions such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror can develop long waits, while major shows only run at scheduled times.

This Disney’s Hollywood Studios guide is designed for UK families visiting Walt Disney World in 2026. It explains which rides to prioritise, how Lightning Lane works, where to eat and how to organise a realistic one-day itinerary.

Quick recommendation: Arrive before the official opening time, complete one high-demand attraction immediately and save indoor shows for the hottest part of the afternoon.

Is Disney’s Hollywood Studios worth visiting?

Hollywood Studios is particularly suitable for families who enjoy:

  • Star Wars

  • Toy Story and Pixar

  • Thrill rides

  • Live shows

  • Character experiences

  • Immersive themed environments

The park has fewer traditional gentle rides than Magic Kingdom, but several of Disney World’s most technologically ambitious attractions are located here.

Families with teenagers will probably consider Hollywood Studios essential. Families travelling with toddlers can still have an enjoyable day, but should concentrate on Toy Story Mania, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, character meetings and the park’s live shows.

How long do you need at Hollywood Studios?

Allow a full day when visiting for the first time.

A carefully planned family can complete the main attractions in one day, but you may struggle to experience every ride, character meeting and show during busy periods.

Families using longer UK Disney tickets could visit twice:

  • One morning for the major rides

  • One afternoon and evening for shows, characters and Fantasmic

What is new at Hollywood Studios in 2026?

Hollywood Studios has received several important changes for 2026.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opened on 26 May 2026, replacing the previous Aerosmith version while retaining the attraction’s high-speed launch and 48-inch height requirement.

Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! is a new interactive family show featuring Mickey, Minnie and their friends. It also opened in May 2026 and is currently included among the park’s scheduled entertainment.

The reimagined Animation Courtyard is open, while the indoor Magic of Disney Animation experience is expected to open in late summer 2026. Planned experiences include character drawing, an Alice in Wonderland-inspired play area and Disney Animation character encounters. Check its operating status shortly before travelling.

Construction is also continuing on Monstropolis, the future Monsters, Inc.-themed area. Disney has not announced an opening date for Monstropolis. Check Disney’s official updates before travelling.

Last checked: July 2026. Attractions, showtimes and construction arrangements can change, so check the My Disney Experience app before your visit.

Hollywood Studios areas explained

Hollywood Boulevard

Hollywood Boulevard is the park’s main entrance street.

It leads towards the Chinese Theatre, which houses Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The street also contains shops, refreshments and several useful PhotoPass locations.

This is normally the busiest area shortly after opening and again when guests gather for nighttime entertainment.

Sunset Boulevard

Sunset Boulevard is the main thrill-ride area.

It includes:

  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

  • Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

  • Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage

  • Fantasmic

Families with teenagers may spend considerable time here, while those with younger children can use Rider Switch for the larger rides.

Toy Story Land

Toy Story Land places visitors in Andy’s back garden, surrounded by oversized toys and colourful decorations.

Its three principal attractions are:

  • Slinky Dog Dash

  • Toy Story Mania

  • Alien Swirling Saucers

There is limited indoor space within the land, so it can feel particularly hot during the middle of the day.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Galaxy’s Edge is one of the most immersive areas in Walt Disney World.

The land includes:

  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

  • Oga’s Cantina

  • Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

  • Ronto Roasters

Even visitors who are not committed Star Wars fans may appreciate the scale and detail of the area.

Echo Lake

Echo Lake contains several shows, restaurants and family attractions, including:

  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

  • Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular

  • Frozen Sing-Along Celebration

  • 50’s Prime Time Café

  • Hollywood & Vine

This is a useful area to visit during the afternoon because several attractions are indoors.

Animation Courtyard

This part of the park is becoming increasingly family-focused.

Current and developing experiences include Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and the new Magic of Disney Animation experiences planned for later in 2026.

Best rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Best for: Older children, teenagers and adults
Minimum height: 40 inches / 102 cm
Priority: Very high

Rise of the Resistance combines large sets, ride vehicles, special effects and multiple stages into one extended Star Wars experience.

It regularly attracts substantial queues and can occasionally experience technical interruptions. For that reason, it is sensible to ride early, purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass or watch the wait time later in the evening.

This is currently a Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction rather than part of Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

Slinky Dog Dash

Best for: Families with children ready for a moderate roller coaster
Minimum height: 38 inches / 97 cm
Priority: Very high

Slinky Dog Dash is smoother and less intense than Disney World’s largest coasters, but it is more exciting than its colourful Toy Story appearance may suggest.

The attraction often develops a long queue soon after opening. It is one of the strongest advance selections when purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Best for: Thrill-seekers
Minimum height: 40 inches / 102 cm
Priority: High

Tower of Terror combines detailed storytelling with sudden drops inside the Hollywood Tower Hotel.

The darkness, eerie atmosphere and repeated drop sequence may be too intense for nervous children, even when they meet the height requirement.

Waits sometimes become more manageable later in the day, but this varies considerably.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Best for: The whole family
Minimum height: None
Priority: High

Located inside the Chinese Theatre, Runaway Railway takes guests into a colourful Mickey Mouse cartoon.

It offers a good balance for mixed-age families because everyone can ride together. It is also indoors, making it useful during hot weather or rain.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

Best for: Older children, teenagers and adults
Minimum height: 48 inches / 122 cm
Priority: High

The updated Muppets version of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster features a rapid launch, darkness and inversions.

Despite its humorous Muppets theme, this remains one of the most intense rides at Walt Disney World. Families with a non-rider should ask about Rider Switch.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Best for: Star Wars fans and families who enjoy simulators
Minimum height: 38 inches / 97 cm
Priority: Medium to high

Groups enter the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon and receive roles such as pilot, gunner or engineer.

The experience varies depending on your position. Pilots control the movement and generally have the most interactive role, while engineers sit towards the rear.

Guests prone to motion sickness may find it uncomfortable.

Toy Story Mania!

Best for: All ages
Minimum height: None
Priority: Medium

Toy Story Mania is an interactive competition in which guests fire virtual objects at targets.

It is one of the safest choices for families containing both younger children and older relatives. The queue is indoors, although waits can still be lengthy.

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

Best for: Star Wars fans
Minimum height: 40 inches / 102 cm
Priority: Medium

Star Tours is a 3D motion simulator featuring different Star Wars destinations and characters.

It commonly has a shorter wait than the attractions inside Galaxy’s Edge, making it useful when your other plans are between reservation times.

Alien Swirling Saucers

Best for: Younger children
Minimum height: 32 inches / 81 cm
Priority: Low to medium

Alien Swirling Saucers is a short spinning attraction within Toy Story Land.

It is enjoyable but should not normally be prioritised over Slinky Dog Dash or Toy Story Mania unless it is particularly important to your children.

Our recommended ride priorities

Highest priority

  1. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

  2. Slinky Dog Dash

  3. Tower of Terror

  4. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Second priority

  1. Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

  2. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

  3. Toy Story Mania

Fit around your schedule

  1. Star Tours

  2. Alien Swirling Saucers

This order will vary according to your children’s ages and whether your family prefers thrill rides or character-based attractions.

Need Disney World tickets?

Many UK ticket packages include multiple Disney park days, which can make it easier to return to Hollywood Studios rather than forcing every attraction into one visit.

Check Disney World Ticket Options

Best shows at Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios has more substantial live entertainment than the other Walt Disney World parks. Showtimes vary by date and should be checked in the My Disney Experience app. Current entertainment includes Fantasmic, Indiana Jones, Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Disney Villains and Disney Jr. performances.

Fantasmic

Fantasmic is the park’s main nighttime production, combining live performers, water effects, projections and Disney characters.

The large outdoor amphitheatre can fill during busy periods. Arriving early usually provides a better choice of seats, although it also reduces the time available for evening rides.

A Fantasmic Dining Package can provide reserved seating with participating restaurant bookings, subject to current availability. Disney lists it as one of the park’s dining options.

Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular

This large-scale stunt show recreates action sequences inspired by the Indiana Jones films.

It is a good choice for families with older children and provides a lengthy seated break. Some scenes contain loud explosions.

For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration

The Frozen Sing-Along combines songs from the film with comedy and live performers.

It works particularly well for younger families and gives everyone a break from the Florida heat.

The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure

This indoor production retells parts of The Little Mermaid through performers, puppetry, music and effects.

Because it has no height restriction, it is useful for families who cannot ride some of the park’s larger attractions.

Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After

This stage production focuses on Disney villains and is performed several times during the day.

It is darker than many Disney shows but is listed as suitable for all ages. Sensitive younger children may still find some characters or effects intimidating.

Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!

This interactive show is primarily aimed at preschool children and includes music, movement and familiar Disney Jr. characters.

It provides a useful alternative for families with children who are too small for Hollywood Studios’ thrill rides.

Hollywood Studios one-day itinerary

This itinerary assumes you arrive before the park officially opens and remain until Fantasmic.

It should be treated as a flexible route rather than a strict timetable.

Before leaving your hotel

Check:

  • Park opening time

  • Early Entry arrangements

  • Ride closures

  • Lightning Lane reservations

  • Showtimes

  • Fantasmic performance time

  • Any dining reservations

Try to arrive at the entrance approximately 45 to 60 minutes before the published opening time. Disney Resort guests may have access to Early Theme Park Entry, depending on their accommodation and admission.

Morning: complete high-demand rides

Plan A: Slinky Dog Dash first

Choose this route when Slinky Dog Dash is your family’s main priority.

  1. Enter Toy Story Land and ride Slinky Dog Dash.

  2. Ride Toy Story Mania.

  3. Complete Alien Swirling Saucers if the wait is reasonable.

  4. Walk into Galaxy’s Edge.

  5. Ride Rise of the Resistance or use your Single Pass reservation.

  6. Ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

Plan B: Rise of the Resistance first

Choose this route when Rise is essential and you are not purchasing a Single Pass.

  1. Walk directly to Galaxy’s Edge.

  2. Ride Rise of the Resistance.

  3. Complete Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

  4. Continue into Toy Story Land.

  5. Ride Toy Story Mania.

  6. Use Lightning Lane for Slinky Dog Dash.

Rise of the Resistance can experience delayed openings. Check the app while entering the park and change plans quickly if it is unavailable.

Late morning: central attractions

After completing Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land:

  1. Ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

  2. Check the next Frozen or Indiana Jones performance.

  3. Ride Star Tours if its queue is manageable.

  4. Order lunch before the main midday rush.

Afternoon: shows and indoor attractions

The afternoon is the best time to reduce walking and escape the heat.

A practical order could include:

  1. Frozen Sing-Along

  2. Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular

  3. The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure

  4. Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After

  5. Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! for younger children

You do not need to attend every show. Choose those most relevant to your family and use the remaining time for characters or missed attractions.

Late afternoon: Sunset Boulevard

Move towards Sunset Boulevard and complete:

  1. Tower of Terror

  2. Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

  3. Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage, depending on showtime

Families using Rider Switch should allow additional time because the adults will ride separately.

Evening

Return to any major attraction you missed before having dinner.

Wait times may begin falling as visitors secure Fantasmic seats, but this is not guaranteed.

Finish with:

  1. An evening ride or Galaxy’s Edge after dark

  2. Fantasmic

  3. Final shopping on Hollywood Boulevard

Hollywood Studios Lightning Lane strategy

Hollywood Studios currently uses Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass and Premier Pass.

With Multi Pass, guests select up to three experiences in advance. At Hollywood Studios, the advance attractions are divided into two groups. You initially choose up to one attraction from the first group and two from the second group.

Current first-group attractions

  • Slinky Dog Dash

  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

  • Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

Current second-group attractions

  • Alien Swirling Saucers

  • Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage

  • Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!

  • Frozen Sing-Along Celebration

  • Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular

  • The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure

  • Star Tours

  • Toy Story Mania

  • Tower of Terror

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is currently sold separately as a Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction. Attractions and categories can change, so verify them before purchasing.

Best Multi Pass selections

A strong initial combination would usually be:

Selection Recommended attraction
First group
Slinky Dog Dash
Second group
Tower of Terror
Second group
Toy Story Mania

Families who do not want thrill rides could choose:

Selection Recommended attraction
First group
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Second group
Toy Story Mania
Second group
Frozen or The Little Mermaid

After using your first reservation, check immediately for another available attraction.

When can Lightning Lane be purchased?

Disney Resort hotel guests and guests at certain other eligible hotels can currently purchase Lightning Lane passes up to seven days before their stay. Other visitors can purchase up to three days before their park visit. Purchases become available from 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time on the first eligible day.

UK visitors should set reminders using Florida time because the UK and United States change their clocks on different dates.

Read our complete Disney World Lightning Lane guide before making your selections.

Where to eat at Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios has dining locations, ranging from snack stands and mobile-order counters to themed table-service restaurants.

Recommended quick-service restaurants

Restaurant Area Best for
Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo
Galaxy’s Edge
Star Wars theming and substantial meals
Ronto Roasters
Galaxy’s Edge
Quick wraps and snacks
Woody’s Lunch Box
Toy Story Land
Familiar family food
ABC Commissary
Commissary Lane
Indoor seating and air conditioning
Backlot Express
Echo Lake
Straightforward family meals

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

Docking Bay 7 is a strong choice for families wanting something more distinctive than burgers and chips.

The interior continues the Galaxy’s Edge theme and provides valuable shelter from the weather.

Woody’s Lunch Box

Woody’s Lunch Box is conveniently located inside Toy Story Land.

However, most seating is outdoors, and the area can become busy. Use mobile ordering rather than waiting until everyone is already hungry.

ABC Commissary

ABC Commissary may not have the park’s most immersive theme, but its indoor seating makes it practical during hot or wet weather.

Recommended table-service restaurants

Restaurant Style Best for
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater
Drive-in cinema theme
Unusual family experience
50’s Prime Time Café
1950s family-home theme
Interactive dining
Roundup Rodeo BBQ
Toy Story barbecue
Families and larger appetites
Hollywood & Vine
Buffet and character dining
Younger children
Hollywood Brown Derby
Signature dining
Adults and special occasions

Disney currently allows dining reservations to be made up to 60 days in advance. Disney Resort hotel guests can generally book for the eligible length of their stay, up to ten nights.

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater

Guests sit in car-shaped booths inside a darkened drive-in cinema while retro film clips play on a large screen.

It is one of the park’s most distinctive restaurants, although the seating configuration can make face-to-face conversation difficult.

50’s Prime Time Café

This restaurant recreates a 1950s family home, complete with television sets and playful interactions from the serving team.

It is entertaining when your family enjoys participation, but may not suit visitors who prefer a quieter meal.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ

Roundup Rodeo BBQ extends the Toy Story Land theme into a table-service restaurant.

Meals are substantial, so avoid booking immediately before thrill rides if members of your family experience motion sickness.

Visiting Hollywood Studios with young children

Hollywood Studios can still work with toddlers, but the day should be organised differently from one focused on older children.

Prioritise:

  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

  • Toy Story Mania

  • Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!

  • Frozen Sing-Along

  • The Little Mermaid

  • Character meetings

  • Animation experiences

  • Fantasmic, provided the children can remain awake

Use Rider Switch

Rider Switch allows adults to take turns riding when a child cannot or does not want to experience an attraction. The second eligible adult can then use the designated return entrance rather than repeating the standard queue.

Your entire group should approach the Cast Member at the attraction entrance before the first group joins the queue.

This can be particularly useful at:

  • Rise of the Resistance

  • Slinky Dog Dash

  • Tower of Terror

  • Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster

  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Take afternoon breaks

Hollywood Studios has several indoor shows, but Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge can feel exposed during the hottest hours.

Schedule air-conditioned attractions, lunch or shows between approximately midday and late afternoon rather than continually crossing the park.

Character meetings at Hollywood Studios

Character availability and meeting times can change, but Hollywood Studios commonly offers characters connected with:

  • Mickey and Minnie
  • Olaf
  • Disney Junior
  • Toy Story
  • Pixar
  • Star Wars
  • Disney Animation

Current listings include Mickey and Minnie at Red Carpet Dreams, Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight, Toy Story characters in Toy Story Land and several Pixar characters.

Check the app on the morning of your visit because character times are more variable than ride opening hours.

Getting to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Visitors staying at Walt Disney World can reach Hollywood Studios through several transport systems.

Disney buses

Complimentary Disney buses connect the park with Disney Resort hotels and other parts of Walt Disney World.

The most direct route can vary, so check the My Disney Experience app or your hotel’s transport information.

Disney Skyliner

The Disney Skyliner connects Hollywood Studios with:

  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

  • Disney’s Riviera Resort

  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort

  • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

  • EPCOT’s International Gateway

It is normally a convenient option, although service can be affected by weather or operational interruptions.

Friendship Boats

Boat transport serves Hollywood Studios from selected EPCOT-area resorts and the BoardWalk area.

It is slower than walking from some nearby hotels but can provide a welcome rest.

Walking

Guests staying near Disney’s BoardWalk, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan or Dolphin may be able to walk to Hollywood Studios.

Consider the temperature, walking distance and how tired your family is likely to be after the park closes.

Driving and parking

Guests staying away from Disney property may prefer to drive.

Allow sufficient time for parking, security and walking from the car park. Reaching the entrance at the published opening time is usually too late for an effective rope-drop strategy.

Practical Hollywood Studios tips for UK families

Do not underestimate jet lag

Families arriving from the UK may wake very early during the first few mornings.

This can make Hollywood Studios a useful early-holiday park because you may find it easier to arrive before opening. However, remaining for Fantasmic on the same day could be difficult for younger children.

Download the Disney app before travelling

The My Disney Experience app is used for:

  • Wait times

  • Park maps

  • Lightning Lane

  • Mobile food orders

  • Dining reservations

  • Showtimes

  • Attraction closures

Set up your family group and confirm that everyone’s tickets appear before flying to Florida.

Carry a portable charger

Using maps, attraction times, mobile ordering and Lightning Lane can consume a considerable amount of battery.

Hollywood Studios has charging options, but carrying your own power bank is usually more convenient.

Expect rain

Many outdoor attractions temporarily stop during storms, while indoor attractions and shows become busier.

Carry lightweight ponchos and avoid crossing the entire park during heavy rain unless necessary.

Avoid scheduling too many fixed reservations

A day containing three Lightning Lane reservations, a restaurant booking and several fixed showtimes can become unnecessarily stressful.

Leave gaps so that your family can respond to changing queues, weather and tiredness.

Is Hollywood Studios suitable for different age groups?

Frequently asked questions

Is Disney’s Hollywood Studios a full-day park?

Hollywood Studios is a full-day park for most first-time visitors. Although it covers a smaller area than EPCOT, long ride waits and scheduled shows can fill an entire day.

What should you ride first at Hollywood Studios?

Slinky Dog Dash or Rise of the Resistance are normally the strongest first choices. Choose Slinky Dog when you are buying a Rise of the Resistance Single Pass.

Can you complete Hollywood Studios without Lightning Lane?

Yes, but you will need to arrive early, monitor wait times and accept that some attractions may involve long queues. Lightning Lane becomes more valuable during school holidays and other busy periods.

Is Rise of the Resistance included with Multi Pass?

Rise of the Resistance is currently offered through Lightning Lane Single Pass rather than Multi Pass. Disney can change attraction categories, so check before purchasing.

Is Slinky Dog Dash frightening?

Slinky Dog Dash is a family roller coaster rather than an extreme thrill ride. However, it includes launches, drops and faster sections that may concern nervous children.

Which Hollywood Studios rides have no height restriction?

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Toy Story Mania are the park’s principal rides without minimum height requirements. Shows and most character experiences are also available to all heights.

Is Hollywood Studios good for toddlers?

It can be, particularly for Toy Story, Disney Jr., Frozen, Mickey and character experiences. However, Magic Kingdom normally provides a wider selection of rides for preschool children.

Where is the best place to eat?

Docking Bay 7 is a strong quick-service choice, while Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater offers one of the most distinctive themed meals. Families with younger children may prefer Hollywood & Vine or Roundup Rodeo BBQ.

Should you stay for Fantasmic?

Yes, particularly when visiting Hollywood Studios for the first time. Families with very young children should consider whether the late performance time will be manageable.

Can you visit Hollywood Studios and EPCOT on the same day?

Yes. The parks are connected by the Disney Skyliner, boat transport and a walking route. However, splitting one day between them may mean missing major attractions unless you have already visited both parks.

Final verdict

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is one of the strongest Walt Disney World parks for families with older children, teenagers and Star Wars fans.

Its combination of major thrill rides, detailed themed areas and live entertainment makes it worthy of a full day. The principal planning challenge is balancing high-demand rides with fixed showtimes.

Arrive early, prioritise either Slinky Dog Dash or Rise of the Resistance and avoid filling every hour with reservations. A flexible plan will normally produce a more enjoyable family day than attempting to follow an exact minute-by-minute schedule.
