Typhoon Lagoon: the quick answer

When operating, Typhoon Lagoon combines family raft rides, bigger slides, a lazy river, children's play areas and a powerful Surf Pool. Use it as a slower day between theme parks, choosing experiences around the family's swimming ability, height limits and energy.

Plan for A half-day of selected highlights or a longer visit with proper breaks.
Check first Opening status, your ticket's water-park entitlement and the weather.
Child limits Some attractions have minimum heights; children's areas have maximum heights.
Surf Pool Large waves and changing conditions need more care than a normal swimming pool.

Check opening dates and ticket cover before buying

Already have Disney tickets?

Check whether your exact UK ticket includes water-park admission, the permitted visits, expiry date and any restrictions. You may already have the admission you need, so check before buying an extra ticket.

Need water-park admission?

Compare the option that fits your wider holiday. A ticket allowing a Disney water-park visit does not guarantee that Typhoon Lagoon itself will be operating on your chosen date.

Confirm the current supplier terms and the official opening calendar before paying. Special events and some ticket types have separate conditions.

Plan a future Typhoon Lagoon day for your family

Choose your interests and how much time you want to allow. The suggestions below apply only when the park and relevant attractions are operating; check swimming ability and individual attraction rules before joining.

A future day plan for family raft rides

  1. After checking the park is open, choose a base, arrange belongings and agree which adult is supervising each child.
  2. Consider Miss Adventure Falls or Gangplank Falls if the experience suits everyone. Follow the loading and supervision instructions at the attraction.
  3. Take a meal and shade break, then consider Castaway Creek if suitable for your group and the conditions.
  4. Repeat a family favourite if everyone has energy, then leave time for changing and the journey back.

For a half-day visit, choose a small number of priorities and keep time for a meal, shade and changing. Leave an attraction out if its wait or suitability does not fit your group.

The finder does not check live opening status, queues, individual height limits or suitability. Recheck the official calendar and attraction instructions before your visit.

A relaxed one-day Typhoon Lagoon plan

Use this flexible sequence on a date when Typhoon Lagoon is operating. Adjust it for the suggested plan above, weather, closures and each person's abilities.

Before opening: arrive ready to change quickly Have swimwear, sun protection and a waterproof plan for valuables organised. Confirm which priority slides are operating.
Opening period: ride the most important slides Choose a suitable priority attraction, whether that is a bigger slide, a family raft ride or an appropriate younger-child area. Check the rules before joining.
Mid-morning: ride together Use Miss Adventure Falls or Gangplank Falls, then reassess energy and queues before adding more stairs.
Late morning: slow down Enter Castaway Creek or move to the younger-child area. Agree where everyone will meet if the group separates.
Lunch: take a proper break Eat before the whole family is hungry, reapply sun protection and drink water. Check afternoon weather while seated.
Early afternoon: choose a suitable activity or rest If the Surf Pool suits your group, read the posted wave schedule and follow the lifeguards. Keep close watch on children and weaker swimmers; a dry break is also a valid choice.
Mid-afternoon: repeat favourites Choose one final slide area rather than circling the park. Stop if stairs, heat or water exposure are becoming tiring.
Finish: change before the final rush Collect belongings, check transport and leave enough time for showers or changing without creating a stressful end to a recovery day.

Place this water-park visit between demanding theme-park days using our 14-day Orlando itinerary.

Typhoon Lagoon height and child limits

Typhoon Lagoon has both minimum-height thrill rides and maximum-height children's areas. Disney Cast Members make the final decision.

Attraction Limit Planning note
Crush 'n' Gusher 122 cm / 48 in or taller Raft-based water coaster; follow current loading instructions.
Humunga Kowabunga 122 cm / 48 in or taller Fast enclosed body slide with a steep drop.
Ketchakiddee Creek 122 cm / 48 in or shorter Shallow play area designed for smaller children.
Bay Slides Under 152 cm / 60 in Children aged 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
Miss Adventure Falls Any height Four-person family raft; suitability still depends on the individual guest.
Gangplank Falls Any height Group raft attraction; follow loading and supervision instructions.
Storm Slides, Mayday Falls and Keelhaul Falls Any height Intensity varies; check the attraction entrance before joining.
Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool and Castaway Creek Any height Swimming confidence, supervision and water depth remain important.

Limits checked on 24 October 2026. Bay Slides uses an under-60-inch rule in Disney's detailed guidance; confirm borderline heights and supervision rules with a Cast Member. Attractions are currently closed with the park.

Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool safety

When operating, the Surf Pool can produce swells up to six feet. It has no minimum height, but that is not a measure of suitability for a particular swimmer. Read the wave schedule and follow the lifeguards.

Check the wave schedule

A chalkboard near the beach shows the day's wave programme. Do not assume every cycle produces the same conditions.

Choose the right depth

Use only areas and conditions you can manage. Large waves can knock over adults as well as children; do not move farther out simply because other visitors do.

Watch children closely

Stay within immediate reach of young or weaker swimmers and follow lifeguard instructions at all times.

Use life jackets correctly

Disney provides life jackets in child and adult sizes. Ask for help with fit. A life jacket does not replace close supervision.

No inner tubes

Inner tubes are not permitted in the Surf Pool. Use them in Castaway Creek instead.

Know when to stop

Leave the water if anyone is tired, cold, disoriented or repeatedly losing balance.

Typhoon Lagoon with younger children

Ketchakiddee Creek and Bay Slides give smaller visitors dedicated options, while Miss Adventure Falls and Castaway Creek can suit mixed-age families. Close adult supervision is still essential.

Measure children before travel because the two children's areas use different maximum-height rules.
Introduce shallow water and smaller slides before attempting larger family attractions.
Use a correctly fitted life jacket where appropriate and follow lifeguard directions.
Keep children within immediate reach in the Surf Pool, even close to the beach.
Schedule snacks, shade and dry breaks before children become cold or overtired.
Agree which adult is supervising before another adult leaves for a slide.

What to wear and pack

Secure swimwear: choose clothing suitable for repeated slides and a family environment.
Water shoes: useful on hot or textured paths, although some slides may require removal.
Sun protection: use water-resistant sunscreen and reapply according to its instructions.
Dry clothes: pack a complete change in a waterproof bag for the journey back.
Swim nappies: diaper-age children must wear swim nappies or plastic pants in pool areas.
Waterproof storage: protect phones, passports, wallets and car keys or use a locker.

Disney's current clothing rules: swimwear with buckles, rivets, zips, exposed metal or other sharp objects is not allowed on attractions. Denim and neoprene are also prohibited on Bay Slides, Humunga Kowabunga, Ketchakiddee Creek and Storm Slides.

Coolers are inspected. Disney currently prohibits loose or dry ice, glass and alcoholic drinks brought into the water park; reusable ice packs are accepted.

Food, shade and practical facilities

Food and drinks

Leaning Palms and smaller locations offer meals, snacks and drinks. Check current menus and opening hours on the day.

Life jackets and towels

Disney currently lists complimentary life jackets and towels. Adult-sized life jackets and towel collection are available at Singapore Sal's when the park is operating.

Lockers

Lockers are available to rent. Decide before swimming how the family will access phones, payment methods, medicines and dry clothes.

Reserved shade

Umbrellas and Beachcomber Shacks are paid optional rentals. Compare the live price with how long you expect to stay.

Water temperature

Disney states that pool and water areas are heated to about 81 degrees Fahrenheit, approximately 27 degrees Celsius.

Meeting point

Choose a specific landmark rather than saying "near the wave pool" if family members split up.

Getting to Typhoon Lagoon

Allow time for both the journey and changing. Water-park transport arrangements can differ from theme-park routes.

Driving

Disney currently lists complimentary standard water-park parking on a first-come basis. Save your car location and protect keys before entering the water.

Disney Resort buses

Disney provides bus transport from its resort hotels, with transfers at selected locations. Confirm the current route at your hotel.

Rideshare

Confirm the correct Typhoon Lagoon collection point and avoid arranging pickup until the family is changed and ready.

Florida weather and water-park closures

Outdoor water attractions can pause during thunderstorms or other unsafe weather, and a same-day closure may not appear on the calendar in advance.

Check before travelling

Review the official calendar and local forecast before leaving your accommodation.

Do not chase lightning

Follow Cast Member instructions and leave the water immediately when attractions close.

Keep a flexible backup

Choose an alternative rest, shopping or indoor activity rather than assuming a storm delay will be brief.

How long should you allow?

How long should you spend at Typhoon Lagoon?

Most families

Four to six hours

Enough time for priority slides, Miss Adventure Falls, Castaway Creek, the surf pool and a meal or proper rest, especially with an early arrival.

Slower pace

A full water-park day

Useful for confident swimmers, families with very young children, repeat slide riders or anyone using Typhoon Lagoon as a genuine recovery day.

UK family tip: avoid scheduling a non-refundable evening commitment immediately after the water park. Weather delays, tired children and transport can make a precise finishing time unrealistic.

Your checks before leaving

Check these details before leaving your accommodation

Park calendar: confirm Typhoon Lagoon is the Disney water park operating that day.
Weather: thunderstorms and cold conditions can interrupt attractions or close the park.
Attraction status: slides may be unavailable even when the water park opens.
Admission: confirm exactly what your ticket includes and whether restrictions apply.
Child limits: check both minimum and maximum heights before promising a particular slide.
Swimwear: remove exposed metal, buckles or unsuitable clothing before reaching a slide.
Attraction areas and walking routes

Understand the main attraction zones

The park wraps around Mount Mayday and the surf pool. Group nearby slides instead of repeatedly circling the park.

Mount Mayday Humunga Kowabunga, Storm Slides, Mayday Falls and Keelhaul Falls.
Family raft area Miss Adventure Falls and nearby Crush 'n' Gusher offer two different group experiences.
Surf Pool Powerful scheduled waves, beach space and Bay Slides for children nearby.
Castaway Creek Lazy river circling the park with several entry and exit points.
Ketchakiddee Creek Shallow water play and scaled-down slides for children 122 cm / 48 in or shorter.
Food and facilities Changing areas, lockers, food, seating and optional reserved shade are spread around the park.
Common planning mistakes to avoid

Common planning mistakes

Not checking which park is open

Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach can operate different seasonal schedules.

Underestimating the Surf Pool

No height minimum does not mean the large waves are gentle or suitable at every depth.

Ignoring maximum heights

Ketchakiddee Creek and Bay Slides are specifically restricted to smaller children.

Following the wrong pace

Choose attractions around your own group. A slower start is sensible if it helps children or less-confident swimmers settle in.

Packing unsuitable swimwear

Metal, zips, denim or neoprene can prevent access to selected attractions.

Scheduling a rigid finish

Weather, changing, transport and tired children make precise departure times unreliable.
